UniProtKB description: Chemotactic-signal transducers respond to changes in the concentration of attractants and repellents in the environment, transduce a signal from the outside to the inside of the cell, and facilitate sensory adaptation through the variation of the level of methylation (Probable). PcaY recognizes a wide range of compounds containing a C6-membered ring with a carboxylate group. Binds preferentially compounds that serve as carbon sources and among them those that rapidly promote growth. Tightest binding compounds are quinate, shikimate, 3-dehydroshikimate and protocatechuate, which are at the interception of the biosynthetic shikimate and catabolic quinate pathways (PubMed:28620365).
