UniProtKB description:  Participates in a pentose oxidation pathway that converts D-arabinose to 2-oxoglutarate (PubMed:16849334). Catalyzes the NADP-dependent conversion of D-arabinose to D-arabinono-1,4-lactone (PubMed:16849334, PubMed:17610898). In vitro, can also use L-fucose, L-galactose and D-ribose (PubMed:16849334, PubMed:17610898). Shows highest activity with L-fucose, in combinaison with NAD, and lower activity toward L-galactose and D-ribose (PubMed:16849334, PubMed:17610898). When acting on its physiological substrate, D-arabinose, shows a clear preference for NADP over NAD (PubMed:16849334).
